Fun stuff (in picture form)

We have had a little bit of time to do some of the more touristy, fun things that most people do in Vancouver - mainly in the evenings when the job centre shuts and nobody sends us emails that might include a job offer!

So, what follows is a little picture blog of what we've been up to in the past two weeks...

We took a wander into China Town last weekend to stock up on more cheapo-just-add-water-noodles (we've been living on them in the hostel!) and were impressed at how colourful it all was - very impressive. We even found some flattened lizzards, among other crazy things...

The interior of one of the shops that was typical of the area. Half of the things they sold was a complete mystery to us. We couldn't even hazzard a guess at most of it!

The highlight of the morning for Alex... kitty-tastic! (And no, she didn't buy anything. It's a MIRACLE.)

In the afternoon we went to Dr Sun Yat-Sen's gardens - an authentic, traditional Chinese garden - the only full-sized one in the Western Hemisphere apparently.

Needless to say, it was very beautiful and tranquil - lots of good ying and yang energy and all that malarky. You may be interested to know that not a single power tool or nail was used in the construction of any of it. Crazy.

Moving on to a completely different cultural frame of reference, this here is an 'Inukshuk' which is a traditional Inuit symbol for hospitality and navigation. It's been used as the logo for the Winter Olympics which will take place in Vancouver in four years, and is surrounded by a lot of controversy, which I won't bore you with here. But it's a very cool statue, I'm sure you'll agree...

We were so impressed, that Jethro made his own little inukshuk on the beach!

We went for a stroll along one of the beaches which was near the hostel in the evening. We've had some lovely sunsets, as you can see.

Burrard Bridge in the twilight, with lots of pretty twinkly lights.

Jethro got all arty and did a panoramic of the bridge to show it in all its glory.

And finally, we saw some adorable puppies in a pet shop on West Broadway. Everyone in Vancouver seems to own a cute, small dog. Needless to say, Alex has been going all goo goo over a lot of chihuahua's.
